Dear Home Educating families,

I would love to draw everyone's attention to an amazing opportunity for EHE children from all across the UK to learn about parliament.  It is called "Learn with the Lords"  Learn with the Lords Online - Parliament UK Education

Over the past year our sons have been on some of these webinar meetings which are arranged by parliament every few months for Home Educated students - one for age 7-11 one for 12 - 18 year olds.  The most recent webinar my sons attended was with Baroness Bull who has been a professional ballet dancer.  She answered all the children's questions so carefully, describing how each of her parents had inspired her.  Last week Baroness Bull chaired the interesting debates on the Health service Bill and the abolition of the hereditary Lords Bill.  It was on broadcast live on the parliamentary TV channel and they did not finish until 11.35pm.

The next webinar session is this Friday afternoon at 13.30 and 14.30 with Lord Young of Cookham.  Lord Young has been in politics since the 1970s, has had many ministerial roles and is currently the Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords. Parliamentary career for Lord Young of Cookham - MPs and Lords - UK Parliament

The Learn with the Lords Home Education webinars that we have attended in the past have only had a handful of children attending, no more than 5 or 6.  And yet all the children are given an amazing opportunity to meet and ask questions directly to the some of the most accomplished, inspiring and influential people in the UK who are happy to answer their questions.  To my shock, my 10 year old son's spontaneous first question to a Lord on a previous 'Learn with the Lords' was 'How much do you earn?'  The Lord answered so seriously and clearly, he did not make my son feel embarrassed in any way.  They only earn when they are attending parliamentary sessions.  Unlike the Commons, Members of the House of Lords have no personal parliamentary secretaries provided.

Their work scrutinizing hurried House of Commons legislation is so valuable.  Some of this legislation has been hurried through the Commons by the Government and is potentially very dangerous to the public without the Lord's scrutiny and recommendation for a Royal Commission - such as the Assisted Dying Bill.

Please do share this amazing resource with other home-schooling families.  There are also home schooling visits to parliament this month with space available for families to book - please see the website above for details.

Any EHE families who are free this Friday afternoon should consider registering for an opportunity to meet Lord Young of Cookham and can ask their children to prepare a question for him.  Please do forward this to any groups you know who might be interested.

Many thanks
